Over 250,000 people are employed in the hair and beauty sector in the UK. Employers in the hair and beauty sector who pay staff at rates below the National Minimum Wage are being targeted by H M Revenue & Customs.
HMRC will provide tailored tools and guidance for employers to check that they are paying the correct amount. We recommend that employers in this sector check that hourly wage rates paid to staff are in line with National Minimum wages rates, which are as follows:

There are no penalties levied by HMR&C if employers choose to self-correct pay rates as required. Should employers not choose to comply with the National Minimum Wage regulations, then HMR&C will take action to ensure that employees are paid what they are owed.
